Kids and Anxiety

Symptoms of adolescent anxiety and depression can be inconspicuous to loved ones.  What may appear as teenage angst might actually be an indicator of a more serious condition.  Even when there are obvious indicators, loved ones may struggle finding the appropriate help for their adolescent.  At Therapeutic Oasis, we have professionals who have specialized training in treating adolescent mental health disorders.  Teenagers struggling with a mood disorder, behavioral issues, or substance abuse may display the following signs:

  • Mood changes
  • Behavioral changes
  • Weight changes or changes in appetite
  • Intense emotions or mood swings
  • Physical symptoms, including fatigue, headaches, stomaches
  • Substance abuse
  • Suicidal thoughts or self-harm

Children experience the same disorders as adults, including mood, anxiety, and eating disorders. Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder are commonly diagnosed during childhood. Symptoms of mental illness in children may manifest differently than in adults.

Early intervention is key to successful treatment. Psychotherapy and group therapy can help reduce symptoms in your child.
