Emotional Freedom Technique, otherwise known as EFT, is an alternative therapeutic treatment with roots in both cognitive and exposure therapies. EFT works by addressing a negative emotion, pairing it with positive affirmation statements while tapping “acupoints” located throughout our bodies. This unique technique draws on acupuncture theory, which teaches that energy flows through our bodies through meridians. When passages become blocked, individuals may have difficultly processing trauma, negative emotions, or physical illness within the body. By using our fingertips to tap on specific meridians, individuals are able to reframe distressing feelings.
