Mindfulness based therapy and interventions are core to the Oasis philosophy. Our extensively trained professionals have been practicing and sharing mindfulness techniques with clients, well before mindfulness became the latest buzzword.
Some individuals may be unfamiliar with the concept of mindfulness. Simply put, mindfulness is an honest awareness of what is happening in your life, your body and your mind at the present moment. When used within a therapeutic setting, mindfulness based interventions can help bring greater awareness to negative thought patterns while decreasing symptoms of anxiety, depression and/or trauma. Mindfulness has also proven to be effective for individuals suffering from chronic illness, pain, or substance abuse disorders.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of mindfulness based interventions. In a 2012 article published by the American Psychological Association, benefits of mindfulness included:
- Stress reduction
- Decreased rumination
- Increased focus & working memory
- Emotional regulation
- Improved interpersonal relationships
- Cognitive flexibility
