Anni Johnston, MS, LMHC-S, CEDS, BC-DMT, RYT-200, Dance Movement Therapist

Anni’s approach to therapy helps her clients find strength, resolve and higher wisdom. Sessions are focused on solutions, acceptance, and taking the risk to be open to patterns that are no longer working. As a therapist, her approach is both non-judgmental yet probing, so that clients are able to see their struggles more clearly, without losing humor and lightness. Using skills as far ranging as body-awareness, mindfulness, hypnosis, behavioral therapy, recovery principles, grief work, mental restructuring and crisis management, Anni is comfortable working with a broad range of issues for adults, teens, couples and families.

After receiving her Masters in Psychology at the California State University at Hayward, Anni began her experience in the field of psychology working in research at the University of California, San Francisco and the California Department of Health in Family Therapy and Health Psychology respectively. She then returned to work on a second masters’ degree in Dance Movement Therapy to become a Board Certified Dance Movement Therapist. After working 9 years as a Group and Creative Arts Therapist in Adolescent Psychiatry and with chronically mentally ill adults, she left inpatient psychiatry to co-found The Body Positive, a nationally recognized eating disorder prevention non-profit where she developed outreach programs, led pre-teen and teen support groups, lectured, and produced award-winning educational videos. In 2003 she moved to South Florida, began working in the field of Substance Abuse at a well-established facility in a variety of positions (group therapist, primary therapist, clinical assessor, intake specialist) as well as developing their Wellness Program.
